Debt is one business that is booming. This is good news for specialist debt advisers. The biggest setback would be a sudden easing in borrowing problems. But with personal debt topping £1,000bn, that looks unlikely.
Personal bankruptcies rose 26pc to more than 13,000 in the quarter to March. Experts expect more than 50,000 this year.

Individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs) with creditors are rising at 40pc a year.
