Anyone struggling to find a solution to their debt problems should seek out help from appropriate sources as early as they can, one expert has asserted.

David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, is convinced that many borrowers seek to hide their money problems from their lenders which are often in a position to help deal with the issues.

Rather than aiming to keep debt difficulties at bay by borrowing more from different sources, Britons who are struggling financially should try to solve the basic problem that is causing them concern, Mr Kuo maintains.

"Sometimes people are a little misguided about how they solve their problems and they try and throw money at them," he said.

"They should go back to the lender and ask for help."

Close to 400,000 British borrowers entered some form of solution in order to solve their unsecured debt problems over the course of last year, according to the latest figures from the TDX Group.
